Compost / Landfill Garbage / Recycling & Return-It

Posted on 2024-10-28 07:00:00 +0000 UTC

At South Broadview, we are going to strive to get back into the habit of proper composting and recycling, so we have less items going into the landfill garbage. At today’s assembly, we talked about restarting our compost program, as well as making sure we are reducing the amount of garbage that is gets thrown away and taken to the landfill.

Each class will have a compost bin, a garbage bin, and a paper recycling bin. Organic material will be placed in the compost bin and paper will be placed in the paper recycling bin. Recyclables such as wrappers, Ziplocs, yogurt or apple sauce containers and return-it items such as water bottles and juice boxes will be taken home (pack it in / pack it out).

Below is a link to a video, created by some students at Shuswap Middle School, that we watched in today’s assembly. The video focuses on the proper separation of items and trying to have a “litterless lunch”.
