The Week Ahead for September 18th – 22nd

Each week, I will try to do my best to post information about the upcoming week. With this information, South Broadview families can have glimpse into how the week will unfold and talk to their children about any events the students may be participating in. Please be sure to check out the Upcoming Events section, in the side bar, to see events/activities taking place beyond the current week.

Tuesday, September 19th

Full Day Kindergarten.  After seven days of a gradual entry and introduction to Kindergarten, our Kindergarten students will be attending school for full days! Please remember to pack a water bottle, snack and a full lunch, to help the Kindergarten students make it through a full day with good energy.

Strong Start Begins. Strong Start is a free school-based program that provides play-based early learning opportunities for children (0 to 5 years old) and their parents or caregivers. Wednesday, September 20^th

Field Trip to Kalamalka Lake.  Mr. Dodds’ and Mr. Smith’s students will be going on a field trip to Kalamalka Lake.  The students will be riding their bikes along the rail trail from Kekuli Bay to Kaloya Park.  This will be a wonderful adventure and we hope all of the students enjoy themselves.

Thursday, September 21^st

First Evacuation Drill (aka Fire Drill).  The students will be participating in their first evacuation drill of the school year.  Teachers will be preparing the students by talking about our school-wide expectations to ensure everyone is calm and knows exactly what to do if we ever need to evacuate the building for an emergency.  This is the first of four Evacuation Drills we are required to practice.

Friday, September 22^nd

Terry Fox School Run.  On Friday afternoon, the students will participate in the annual Terry Fox School Run.  Students from all over Canada will run to honour the legacy of Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope.  At 12:45, we will have an assembly in the gym, followed by a school-wide run.  Family members are welcome to run with us!  The school will be collecting donations, which will be sent to the Terry Fox Foundation.  Students are encouraged to bring a “Toonie for Terry” or families can make a donation online by clicking on the following link:  Terry Fox School Run – South Broadview Donations  We will be collecting donations at the school and online between September 19^th and September 27^th.  Thank you for your support!
